The GeoCatasto application is a cartographic consultation web-app (WebGIS). With this tool, you can view the WMS layers provided by the Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate) and the IGM cartography (Ministry of the Environment). On the information layers, through the drawing tools, it is possible to draw geometric elements such as points, lines, and polygons, and display measurements such as lengths and areas. Through the editor function, styles and colors can be applied to the geometries, as well as labels.
Once the geometries are inserted, the work can be exported in various formats:
-
.csv: point shapes are saved in csv format in 4 fields: id, label (inserted with the editor mode), latitude, and longitude;
-
.kml: point information is inserted into the kml file (including the label) and can be viewed on Google Earth;
-
.geoJSON: all shapes and styles are saved in this format, which is compatible with many GIS software. More information…
Creating objects in GeoCatasto
In addition to cartographic consultation, it is possible to perform drawing operations using the tools on the side:
Draw point or circle marker:point elements can be inserted in the form of pins and circles; upon export, they will be read as simple points;
Draw polyline: draws a polyline. Once activated, three sub-commands will appear: Finish, Delete last vertex, Cancel;
Draw polygon: draws a polygon. Once activated, three sub-commands will appear: Finish, Delete last vertex, Cancel;
Draw circle: draws a circle by setting a radius value.
Editing
The elements drawn on the map can be edited:
Edit geometry: by activating this function, it is possible to modify the geometry of the drawn elements;
Move: allows you to move the geometries on the map;
Cut: with the cut tool, cuts can be made to polygonal elements. Once activated, simply draw an additional polygon over the one to be cut, and everything inside will be deleted;
Delete: tool to delete the desired geometries;
Rotate: rotates the drawn polygon.
Style Editor
In GeoCatasto, you can apply and modify the style of the created shapes through the editor tool
.
Once the button is clicked, the Editor window will appear on the left, whether for polygons or lines:

- Color: color of the polygon’s outline or the line;
- Opacity: opacity of the polygon’s outline or the line;
- Weight: thickness of the polygon’s outline or the line;
- DashArray: dash type of the polygon’s outline or the line;
- FillColor: polygon fill color;
- FillOpacity: polygon fill opacity;
- Description: adds a custom label to the element; clicking on it will display the popup.
Naturally, for linear elements, the options related to linear fill will not appear. For point markers, instead, you will have:

- Icon: it is possible to change the marker icon by selecting one from a database (the color changes according to the value selected in Color);
- Color: color of the marker icon;
- Size:size of the point marker;
- Description: adds a custom label to the element; clicking on it will display the popup.
To confirm the changes, simply click the button at the top right: ![]()
To deactivate any tool, it is necessary to click the tool’s icon again.
Measurement tool
While drawing the various shapes on the map, there is a tool that displays on screen the sizes of the created objects, lengths, or areas. Once the button is pressed, two options will appear: show measurements or hide measurements. Selecting the first will display, depending on the object’s size, m or km (m² or km²).

Export
Three types of files can be exported:
-
CSV with the labels and coordinates expressed in latitude and longitude of the point markers;
-
KML of the point markers including the labels to be viewed on Google Earth;
-
geoJSON of all geometries and properties to be opened in any GIS software.
Printing
By pressing the print button, a pre-filled layout can be generated in which the user can insert the Project Title, date, and professional’s data in 2 formats: A4 and A3, both vertical and horizontal.

At the top right, two buttons will appear to print the preview and to return to the map; on the right, the legend with the activated layers.
In the print preview, you can navigate the map by zooming with the mouse wheel or the +/- keys; to move, simply use the directional arrows.
Other tools in GeoCatasto
Layer selection: tool to activate/deactivate the available layers;
Location search: a practical location search bar that is activated by clicking the icon; once the location is typed, press enter to see the results;- Layer legend: when activating the layer, a slider is available at the bottom to adjust the layer’s transparency;
- Base Map Selector: at the bottom left, it is possible to select the Google base map, with its corresponding control.
